UNISIGN · Adhesive selection for printable vinyl rolls
Choose permanent adhesive vinyl for a lasting bond. Choose removable adhesive vinyl when the graphic needs planned removal. Match either type to the surface, use period and removal method. “Permanent” does not mean impossible to remove, and “removable” does not mean reusable.

Which Adhesive Fits Your Job?
Use the job to choose a starting point. Then check the complete film, adhesive, ink and laminate system.
| Your job | Start with | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed sign on a smooth panel | Permanent adhesive option | Panel coating, edges, weather and intended life |
| Seasonal shop-window promotion | Removable window-film option | Glass, clarity, viewing side and removal date |
| Event display changed after use | Removable printable vinyl | Display-board surface and removal method |
| Graphic on a painted wall | Wall-approved film and adhesive | Paint cure, paint strength, texture and a test patch |
| Vehicle advertising | Vehicle film matched to the panel shape | Paint, curves, laminate and the take-down plan |
| Difficult plastic or textured surface | A suitable high-tack option for testing | Real surface bond and later removal requirements |
For difficult surfaces, see high-tack vinyl options. High tack describes grab or adhesion; it does not replace the permanent-or-removable choice.

Four Adhesive Terms to Keep Separate
- Permanent: designed for a lasting bond under the stated conditions.
- Removable: designed for later removal within the stated conditions.
- Repositionable: can be adjusted during installation as specified.
- Reusable: designed to be taken off and used again when expressly stated.
Air-release channels help air escape during fitting. Grey or black adhesive helps with background coverage. Neither feature defines removability. Compare grey, black and clear adhesive colours separately.
Glossy and matte describe the surface finish. Check the model label and technical data sheet (TDS) to identify the adhesive.

A 6-Step Sample Check
- Choose the real surface. Use the same glass, board, plastic or painted panel as the job.
- Record the plan. Note indoor or outdoor use, display time and the required removal date.
- Prepare the panel. Follow the surface maker’s cleaning and paint-cure instructions. Keep it clean and dry.
- Make a finished sample. Use the planned ink, drying or curing settings and laminate. Apply with the specified method.
- Check the bond. Follow the stated dwell time. Inspect edges, bubbles, appearance and the effect of the expected exposure.
- Test removal. Follow the approved time, temperature and method. Record effort, adhesive left behind and the condition of the surface.
Keep the model, batch, surface, dates and photos together. A short test helps screen options; use the supplier’s guidance to assess the full service period.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main difference between permanent and removable vinyl?
Permanent adhesive is designed for a lasting bond. Removable adhesive is designed for later removal under stated conditions. Match either one to the surface and the job’s timeline.
Can permanent adhesive vinyl be removed?
Often, yes. The job may need more time, heat or an approved adhesive cleaner. Follow the film and surface instructions, especially on painted panels.
Does removable vinyl always leave no residue?
The result depends on the exact adhesive, surface, exposure, time and removal method. Request the approved removal conditions and test a sample on your real surface.
Can removable vinyl be used outdoors?
Yes, when the exact product is approved for that use. Check outdoor exposure and the removal period separately; “removable” alone does not set outdoor life.
Is removable vinyl reusable or repositionable?
Those are separate features. Removable describes later take-down. Repositionable describes adjustment during fitting. Reusable means the product is designed to be used again.
Which adhesive is better for walls?
Choose a wall-approved film for the actual paint and texture. Check paint cure and strength, then test fitting and removal on a small area.
Is permanent or removable vinyl better for cars?
Choose by paint condition, panel shape, expected use and removal needs. Flat panels and deep curves may need different film grades. Send those details for a matched sample.
Can I tell the adhesive type from gloss, thickness or colour?
No. These features do not identify the removal grade. Use the exact model’s TDS; choose film thickness, finish and adhesive colour separately.
Does laminate turn removable vinyl into permanent vinyl?
No. Laminate does not change the named adhesive type, but it changes the finished graphic’s stiffness and removal behaviour. Test the printed, laminated construction you plan to use.
Which UNISIGN model should I sample first?
Try SAV12/140R for general removable graphics, SAV08T/70 for clear window displays, or ask about SATPU08GR/160G for vehicle graphics. For a lasting sign bond, request a permanent grade matched to your surface.
