Mesh Banner Material: Pros and Cons

Choose mesh when a large outdoor graphic needs airflow
Mesh banner material combines a mesh fabric structure with PVC. Small openings across the surface let air and some light pass through.
- Large display, viewed mainly from a distance
- Bold text, clear logos and simple graphics
- Projects that need airflow and easier handling
Mesh Banner Benefits
- Performs well in windy conditionsThe open structure lets air pass through and helps reduce wind pressure on the banner.
- Dries quicklyAir moves through the mesh structure after rain.
- Resists creasingFlexible mesh is easy to fold or roll for transport and storage.
- Works for large displaysThe semi-transparent surface gives outdoor graphics a softer look.
- Lightweight and durableRolls are easier to move and install on large display areas.

Mesh Banner Drawbacks
- Open holes reduce colour coverage, so colours look softer than on solid vinyl.
- On 30/70 mesh, holes are more visible at close range or in low light. Fine text and detailed images lose clarity.
- Mesh banner material usually costs more than standard solid vinyl.
Choose mesh for windy outdoor locations and large displays. Use short text, large type, clear logos, high-contrast colours and simple graphics.
Solid Vinyl Banner Material: Pros and Cons

Choose solid vinyl for vivid colour, clear detail and a smooth surface

- Viewers read text and see photos at close range
- The project needs a matte, gloss or opaque surface
- Choose double-sided blockout when the two sides need different images

Solid Vinyl Banner Drawbacks
- A solid surface does not let air pass through. In windy locations it catches more wind and can tear or detach if it is not secured well.
- Improper storage or long-term folding can cause wrinkles and creases.
- Solid vinyl weighs more than mesh, making large displays harder to transport and install.
Choose solid vinyl for vivid colour, clear detail and an opaque surface. It suits indoor events, trade shows, retail promotions, stage and video backdrops, and sheltered outdoor displays.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is mesh banner material also vinyl?
Yes. PVC mesh uses a polyester base with a PVC coating and open holes. Solid vinyl banner material is also PVC banner media, with no open holes.
Can solid vinyl banners be used outdoors?
Yes. Solid vinyl suits sheltered outdoor displays. Choose mesh for large graphics or windy locations where airflow through the material is needed.
Does mesh printing always need a liner?
Use lined mesh on print paths without an ink collector, ink tray or mesh kit. Use linerless mesh on equipment with the correct mesh ink-collection setup.
Can mesh be printed on both sides?
Only use a mesh grade specified for double-sided printing and test it with the print setup. For different images on each side without show-through, choose solid blockout.
Which costs less: mesh or solid vinyl?
Standard solid vinyl usually costs less. The quotation depends on material construction, GSM, liner, width, roll length and order quantity.
What should I include in a quotation request?
Send the material type, print method, roll width, roll length, quantity, application, viewing distance and single- or double-sided requirement.
