Black Glue, Grey Glue or Opaque Film?
For cover-up work, compare how well the whole printed film hides the surface underneath. Adhesive colour and adhesive strength are separate choices.
| Option | Main reason to compare it | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Black glue | A dark adhesive layer for hiding old graphics and panel colour | Start with a SAV12B/140 sample |
| Grey glue | A grey adhesive layer that helps reduce show-through | Compare SAV12G/140 on the same background |
| Opaque film | Hiding power built into the film construction | Compare SAV12OP/140 with the required light level |
For frequent changes, explore removable vinyl rolls. For a hard-to-bond surface, see high tack self adhesive vinyl.
Check Your Cover-Up Sample in 4 Steps
- Print your designInclude white space, pale colours and fine text using your normal ink settings.
- Use the real backgroundApply it over old text or your darkest panel. Start with a clean, dry, sound surface.
- Check the resultView it in the actual light. Check show-through, edge bond and the print finish.
- Approve the roll setupConfirm film, width, length, laminate and the planned removal method with your sample.
For overposting, the old graphic should be firmly bonded and smooth. Remove loose or damaged film before applying the new print. For curved vehicle panels, ask for a film designed for that shape.
Printing & Finishing Made Clear
- Match your printer: SAV12B/140 lists solvent, eco-solvent, UV and latex printing.
- Run a print check: use your normal profile, ink load and curing or drying settings.
- Choose a finish: share your gloss or matt preference with the quote request.
- Add protection where needed: match the cold lamination film to the printed vinyl and job.
- Plan the service life: provide indoor or outdoor use, climate and campaign length.

Black Glue Self Adhesive Vinyl FAQs
Is the printable face black?
No. The printable face is white. “Black glue” refers to the adhesive layer underneath the film.
Can black glue vinyl cover an old advertisement?
It is a useful option for cover-up work because the dark adhesive helps hide the old design. Test the new print over the darkest part of the existing graphic and check that the old film is firmly bonded.
Does black glue mean 100% blockout?
No. Black adhesive colour alone does not establish full light blockout. Ask for opacity data and test the exact film under the lighting used for your sign.
Is black glue stronger than grey or clear glue?
Adhesive colour does not define bond strength. Match the adhesive to the surface, service life and removal needs.
Which UNISIGN model has black glue?
SAV12B/140 is the listed black glue model. It has 100 μm PVC film and 140 gsm release paper, with a standard 50 m roll length.
Which inks can I use?
SAV12B/140 lists solvent, eco-solvent, UV and latex printing. Run a sample with your printer, inks and settings before a production order.
Which roll width fits my wide-format printer?
SAV12B/140 is listed in eight widths from 0.914 m to 2.02 m. Match the roll to your printer’s loaded media limit and allow space for trimming. Send your printer model if you want help choosing the roll.
Can I remove it after a short campaign?
Share your planned removal date and surface. Black glue describes colour, so a removable adhesive specification should be selected separately for a short campaign.
What should I send for a quote?
Send your roll width, length, quantity, destination, printer or ink, surface and use period. Add a surface photo and say whether you need to hide old graphics or block light.
