Applications

Choose 800 GSM Blockout by the Finished Display

Start with the job, then choose the roll. Blockout helps limit light and the reverse-side graphic showing through. Two printable faces let you use a different design on each side.

Check 3 separate things

  1. Print: does each face work with your ink and profile?
  2. Blockout: does the finished sample hide the reverse image in the intended light?
  3. Handling: can the equipment and display system take the roll and panel weight?

Diagram explains the function of the two faces and core. It is not a measured product cross-section.

How Much Does an 800 GSM Roll Weigh?

800 gsm means 0.8 kg of material per square metre. Multiply this by the width and length to estimate the net material weight.

Net material weight (kg) = width (m) × length (m) × 0.8
Roll sizeAreaCalculated net material weight
1.6 m × 50 m80 m²64 kg
2.0 m × 50 m100 m²80 kg
3.2 m × 50 m160 m²128 kg
5.0 m × 50 m250 m²200 kg

Calculated examples use the nominal 800 gsm value. They exclude the core, wrapping and pallet. Actual net and shipping weights depend on the supplied roll and weight tolerance.

Check 5 machine limits

  1. Usable media width
  2. Maximum loaded roll weight
  3. Maximum roll diameter and core size
  4. Material thickness and clearance
  5. Feed, take-up and two-sided print handling

GSM is weight per area, not thickness. Use the limits in your exact printer manual.

Advantages

Plan the Print and Finish Before the Full Run

A good two-sided banner needs more than two printed faces. Agree the print sequence, panel layout and edge finish before producing the full order.

  1. Match the print setup.
Confirm printer, ink, media profile, heat settings and feed settings for the supplied roll.
  2. Print and check both sides.
Use small text, colour blocks and registration marks. Check side 1 and side 2 after drying or curing.
  3. Approve the finished sample.
Check colour, ink adhesion, reverse-image show-through, flatness and final dimensions in the intended light.
  4. Test the edge and joint.
Use the planned welding or sewing process, reinforcement and fixings. Keep an approved sample for the order.
FinishAgree with the finishing team
Panel joinsJoin position, overlap, process and a finished seam sample.
Welded or sewn hemsHem size, reinforcement and settings tested on the supplied material.
EyeletsReinforcement, eyelet position and spacing for the finished display.
Pole pocketsPole size, pocket direction and allowance before artwork setup.

For large outdoor displays, send the finished size and fixing plan. The installer should confirm supports, fixing points and site wind loads for the complete display.

800 GSM Blockout Banner: FAQs

What does 800 GSM mean?

It means the material weighs about 800 grams per square metre. GSM is area weight. It does not specify thickness or the strength of a finished seam.

Can I print a different image on each side?

Yes. CDM11/800 is listed as double-side printable blockout. Match the settings to each face and check alignment, ink adhesion and show-through with your own artwork.

How much does a 3.2 m × 50 m roll weigh?

The calculated net material weight is 128 kg: 3.2 × 50 × 0.8. The core and packaging add weight. Ask for the actual loaded roll and shipping weights with your quote.

Will 800 gsm banner work on my printer?

Check width, loaded roll weight, outer diameter, core size and material thickness against your printer manual. The ink type alone does not confirm that the machine can handle the roll. Then approve a print sample.

Can the banner be welded, sewn or fitted with eyelets?

Plan the finish before ordering. Test the supplied material with your welding or sewing process, then confirm the hem, reinforcement, eyelet layout and pocket size for the finished display.

Is 800 gsm enough for a large outdoor banner?

Choose the material as part of the full display plan. The finished size, supports, seams, fixings and site wind loads also matter. Share the installer’s material requirements with UNISIGN.
